Welcome back to a new school year and a very warm welcome to our Nursery. On this page you will find lots of useful information, including photos of what we have been up to, as well as links to letters and documents to see what we are learning throughout the year. Please come back regularly to see the most up to date information and don't hesitate to come and chat if you have any questions. We look forward to getting to know you and your children as they learn and grow with us.
Summer 1
This half term is all about minibeasts. We will be learning about how worms, butterflies. ladybirds and frogs. Keep checking back to see what we have learnt so far!
Minibeast hunt
We travelled over to Crabtree farm this week to see if we could find some mini beasts.
We found loads! Beetles, centipedes, ants and ladybirds to name a few.
Pond dipping
This week we explored our pond. We found snails, water boatman, dragonfly nymphs and water skaters.
We were gentle with our nets and remembered to put the creatures back carefully.
Global Action Week
This week we have thought about how we can help our environment. We have had a visit from a bee keeper and learnt about how we can help keep bees safe, we have been on a litter pick to clean up our local environment and have made our own wormery so we can see how the worms help our soil.
Spring 2
This half term our topic is 'Where's the bear?' We will be exploring books where bears are the main characters and learning about real bears across the world.
Open Morning
Thank you to all the parents who came to share in our children's learning today. We hope you enjoyed getting to see what your children have been up to and look forward to sharing more in the summer term.
Bear Hunt
We have been learning the story 'We're going on a bear hunt'.
We went over to Crabtree farm to see if we could find any real bears
Goldilocks and the 3 bears
Spring 1
This half term our topic is 'Friend or Foe?'
We are comparing different types of animals and different characters in stories to see if they are kind (a friend) or not (a foe).

Chinese New Year
We have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We made Chinese dragons, decorated our home corner ready for the new year and made tiger masks and tiger themed fruit kebabs!
Drama workshop
This week we had a visit from Drama4all. We went on an amazing adventure to rescue the snow lion from the big bad crocodile!
We then took our learning back into the classroom to create our own adventures - making maps and going on incredible journeys!
Dinosaurs
We have been learning all about dinosaurs. We have learnt about where they might have lived and what they might have eaten. We have used words to describe what they look like and have sorted them by whether they have horns, or spikes, or long necks!
A dinosaur even visited our playground so we had to build traps to keep him out!
Trip to Crabtree to hunt for dinosaurs!

Autumn 2
This half term our topic is 'Can you tell me a story?'
We are listening to story that have lots of repeated language and seeing if we can have a go at joining in.
Puppet show
Today we had an AMAZING time watching the puppet and magic show by the excellent Cheeky Dog Entertainments company. The children had the best time and did not stop laughing throughout!
Christmas
We have started feeling all Christmassy in Nursery and have been working together to decorate the classroom and wrap presents for Santa. We are reading 'Stickman' this week and have been on a stick hunt in our wildlife area.
Dragons
When Miss Young came into the classroom on Monday she found some dragon eggs, so we decided to learn about dragons this week. We read stories that had them in and watched closely to see what would happen to the eggs. On Thursday they hatched!!
Nursery Rhyme Week
This week was Nursery Rhyme week. We looked at rhymes like 'Row, row, row your boat' and 'The wheels on the bus', joining in the words and then adding different verses.
The 3 little pigs
This week we have been looking at the story of the 3 little pigs. We practised the story using actions and retold it in lots of different ways. We thought about building our own houses and how we could make them strong enough so the Big Bad Wolf couldn't knock them down!
Open Morning
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our EYFS open morning. We had a wonderful time sharing our learning with you and hope you enjoyed it too.
Senses
This week we learnt all about our 5 senses. We looked at objects of different shapes and colours, we went on listening walks, we talked about the different smells we likes and didn't like and made soups and potions in our messy play using different herbs, we used a feely bag to help us talk about different textures and we talked about our favourite foods.
We also took a trip to Crabtree farm and used our senses to explore!
Being Healthy
This week we learnt all about being healthy. We investigated real fruits and vegetables in our play, chose what food to buy in our supermarket, got lots of exercise in PE and made a tally chart of our favourite fruits.
Our focus books this week we 'Handa's Surprise' and 'The Hungry Caterpillar'.
Our bodies
This week we have been learning about our bodies. We played games to practise naming our body parts, looked at our skeletons and investigated how to get bones out of ice. We drew around our hands and feet and practised cutting them out and looked after each others bodies while pretending to be doctors and nurses. We also practised making patterns using different equipment.
This week's books were "From Head to Toe" by Eric Carle and "Funnybones" by Allan Ahlberg.
Our families
This week we have been sharing about our families. We looked at photographs of people in our family and talked about them to our friends. We also painted, made and played at being different people in our families.
Our books this week were "So Much" by Trish Cook and "Daddy Sandwich" by Pip Jones.
We made our our sandwiches too - they were much tastier than daddy's one!
How we feel
This week we have been learning about our emotions. We read 'The Colour Monster' and 'Have you filled a bucket today?' and thought about how we feel in different situations and how our actions make others feel. We painted and made our own colour monsters, as well as learning about and choosing colours in different activities. We also practised using the words 'full' and 'empty' in our play.
What we look like
We have been learning about what we look like. We have been looking carefully at our features and drawing, painting and making faces. Have a look at some of the learning we have been doing!
