Welcome back to a new school year and a very warm welcome to our Nursery. On this page you will find lots of useful information, including photos of what we have been up to, as well as links to letters and documents to see what we are learning throughout the year. Please come back regularly to see the most up to date information and don't hesitate to come and chat if you have any questions. We look forward to getting to know you and your children as they learn and grow with us.
This half term our topic is 'Friend or Foe?'
We are comparing different types of animals and different characters in stories to see if they are kind (a friend) or not (a foe).
Keep checking back to see what we have been up to!
We have been learning all about dinosaurs. We have learnt about where they might have lived and what they might have eaten. We have used words to describe what they look like and have sorted them by whether they have horns, or spikes, or long necks!
A dinosaur even visited our playground so we had to build traps to keep him out!
Nursery will be CLOSED on Thursday 2nd December due to staff training.
This half term our topic is 'Can you tell me a story?'
We are listening to story that have lots of repeated language and seeing if we can have a go at joining in.
Today we had an AMAZING time watching the puppet and magic show by the excellent Cheeky Dog Entertainments company. The children had the best time and did not stop laughing throughout!
We have started feeling all Christmassy in Nursery and have been working together to decorate the classroom and wrap presents for Santa. We are reading 'Stickman' this week and have been on a stick hunt in our wildlife area.
When Miss Young came into the classroom on Monday she found some dragon eggs, so we decided to learn about dragons this week. We read stories that had them in and watched closely to see what would happen to the eggs. On Thursday they hatched!!
This week was Nursery Rhyme week. We looked at rhymes like 'Row, row, row your boat' and 'The wheels on the bus', joining in the words and then adding different verses.
This week we have been looking at the story of the 3 little pigs. We practised the story using actions and retold it in lots of different ways. We thought about building our own houses and how we could make them strong enough so the Big Bad Wolf couldn't knock them down!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our EYFS open morning. We had a wonderful time sharing our learning with you and hope you enjoyed it too.
This week we learnt all about our 5 senses. We looked at objects of different shapes and colours, we went on listening walks, we talked about the different smells we likes and didn't like and made soups and potions in our messy play using different herbs, we used a feely bag to help us talk about different textures and we talked about our favourite foods.
We also took a trip to Crabtree farm and used our senses to explore!
This week we learnt all about being healthy. We investigated real fruits and vegetables in our play, chose what food to buy in our supermarket, got lots of exercise in PE and made a tally chart of our favourite fruits.
Our focus books this week we 'Handa's Surprise' and 'The Hungry Caterpillar'.
This week we have been learning about our bodies. We played games to practise naming our body parts, looked at our skeletons and investigated how to get bones out of ice. We drew around our hands and feet and practised cutting them out and looked after each others bodies while pretending to be doctors and nurses. We also practised making patterns using different equipment.
This week's books were "From Head to Toe" by Eric Carle and "Funnybones" by Allan Ahlberg.
This week we have been sharing about our families. We looked at photographs of people in our family and talked about them to our friends. We also painted, made and played at being different people in our families.
Our books this week were "So Much" by Trish Cook and "Daddy Sandwich" by Pip Jones.
We made our our sandwiches too - they were much tastier than daddy's one!
This week we have been learning about our emotions. We read 'The Colour Monster' and 'Have you filled a bucket today?' and thought about how we feel in different situations and how our actions make others feel. We painted and made our own colour monsters, as well as learning about and choosing colours in different activities. We also practised using the words 'full' and 'empty' in our play.
We have been learning about what we look like. We have been looking carefully at our features and drawing, painting and making faces. Have a look at some of the learning we have been doing!
