School Values and Ethos

Our core motto is 'Learning Together, Inspired Forever' which aligns with our school vision“For the children of Ley Hill School to have opportunities beyond the curriculum that enrich their learning, provide aspirations for their future and develop the confidence to be curious about the world in which they live.”

Everything we do within our school community is underpinned by the 6Rs - our core values. These being: RECONNECT learning, show RESILIENCE, be RESOURCEFUL, be RECIPROCALREFLECT on our learning and above all else, be RESPECTFUL

We welcome everyone into a safe and secure environment where everyone is nurtured, encouraged to achieve their full potential and to flourish in all areas of life. By learning together, we inspire each other to achieve our potential as lifelong learners.

We aim to:

1. Foster a Love of Learning, Enquiry and Curiosity

  • Cultivate lively, enquiring minds that enjoy learning and are confident to ask questions about the world around them.
  • Provide rich curricular and extra-curricular opportunities that deepen knowledge, ignite curiosity and develop pupils’ passion for learning beyond the classroom.

2. Promote Active Participation, Personal Aspiration and Growth Mindset

  • Encourage pupils to be active participants in their learning journey, developing resilience, ambition and a belief that effort leads to growth.
  • Offer aspirational experiences; visits, visitors, clubs, competitions and leadership roles, that broaden pupils’ sense of what is possible for their future.

3. Prepare Pupils for Life in Modern Britain

  • Equip children with the knowledge, skills and values to live positively and safely in a diverse, modern society.
  • Teach citizenship, democracy and community responsibility so pupils understand their role in shaping the world around them.

4. Develop Respect, Compassion and Understanding of Others

  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, helping pupils appreciate the uniqueness of each individual.
  • Support children to interact with kindness, empathy and respect, reflecting British Values and our school ethos.

5. Encourage Exploration and Appreciation of the Wider World

  • Help pupils understand the interdependence of people, places and environments locally and globally.
  • Foster environmental responsibility and appreciation of human creativity, past and present.

6. Support Personal Development, Wellbeing and Healthy Relationships

  • Deliver a strong PSHE and RSE curriculum that helps pupils understand themselves, build healthy relationships, stay safe (including online) and make informed choices.
  • Celebrate each child’s individuality and help them recognise their strengths and value within the school and community.

7. Cultivate Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

  • Provide opportunities for pupils to experience awe, wonder and spiritual reflection, enriching their understanding of life and humanity.
  • Encourage engagement with cultural diversity, moral reasoning and social action that strengthens character and community.

British Values

British Values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, are deeply embedded in our curriculum, extra-curricular opportunities and daily interactions. They enrich pupils’ character development and connect directly with our school vision by helping children become confident, curious, responsible members of society.

Democracy

  • Our pupil-elected School Council empowers children to experience democratic decision-making first-hand.
  • Pupils develop leadership and responsibility through roles such as subject champions, sports leaders and peer mentors.
  • Debates, circle time, pupil voice activities and PSHE sessions help children express opinions respectfully and listen to others.
  • Assemblies reinforce freedom of speech and the responsibilities that come with it.

The Rule of Law

  • High expectations for behaviour, shared and understood by all pupils, help create a safe and purposeful learning environment.
  • Positive behaviour and kindness are celebrated through weekly assemblies and awards.
  • Through PSHE and citizenship lessons, pupils learn about fairness, justice, right and wrong, and the importance of rules in school and society.
  • Equality and mutual respect underpin our approach to behaviour and relationships.

Individual Liberty

  • Pupils learn to make informed choices, take responsibility for their actions and pursue personal interests with confidence.
  • Through opportunities beyond the curriculum: clubs, sports, arts, competitions and enrichment, children explore talents and develop aspirations for the future.
  • Online safety, personal safety and emotional wellbeing are taught through PSHE, computing, assemblies and visits from specialist organisations.

Mutual Respect

  • Respect is a core school expectation and a daily practice in classrooms, playgrounds and relationships.
  • Pupils learn to cooperate, collaborate and appreciate similarities and differences.
  • Our PSHE, RSE and RE curriculum helps children understand the importance of valuing others and celebrating diversity.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

  • Through RE, assemblies and enrichment opportunities, pupils explore a wide range of faiths, worldviews and non-faith perspectives.
  • Festivals such as Diwali, Ramadan, Easter and others are shared and celebrated with pupils, staff and visitors.
  • Visits to places of worship deepen understanding, encourage curiosity about the wider world and promote respectful dialogue.
